Play Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, The (Europe) Online

I picked up The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland for the Game Boy Color back in 2000, a time when licensed platformers were everywhere. NewKidCo published it, and it was one of those games you’d see on the shelf next to other cartoon and movie tie-ins. It’s based on the Sesame Street movie, so it’s very much a product of its era, aimed at younger players but with that familiar Grouchland grime and humor.

You control Elmo, moving screen by screen through Oscar’s trash heap, jumping over obstacles and collecting items like bananas and rubber duckies. The main goal is to retrieve Elmo’s lost blanket from Oscar, which involves light puzzle solving and avoiding enemies like grouchy insects. The pacing is slow and forgiving, with simple controls that make it accessible, though the level design can feel repetitive after a while. It feels like a straightforward, cheerful crawl through a messy but oddly endearing world.
