You're a prisoner sneaking through Alcatraz's rigid routines—grabbing whatever tools you can find, timing your moves between patrols, and freezing when flashlights hit the corridor. One wrong step and it's back to your cell with a metallic clang.

Alcatraz came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by 3D Realms. It was a time when top-down action and stealth were finding their footing on PC, and this game fit right into that experimental, grid-based era without a lot of fuss.
You control a prisoner trying to escape the infamous island prison. The main goal is to navigate the cell blocks and administrative areas, avoiding guards and gathering keycards, tools, and uniforms to progress. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration, where each new room holds potential danger or a vital item, and tense stealth that requires you to memorize guard patrol routes and hide in shadows. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty is unforgiving, punishing rushed decisions instantly. It feels like a constant, quiet battle against the prison's rhythm, where every small victory is earned.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
