You control a squad of Colonial Marines, switching between them as you explore the derelict U.S.S. Sulaco and other infested locations screen by screen. Your main goal is to survive, find survivors, and purge the xenomorph threat. The key mechanics involve permanent death for your marines; if one dies, they are gone for good, and you have to find a new recruit to continue. You also collect keycards and tools to unlock new areas, much like in a Metroidvania. The pacing is deliberate, often tense, because a wrong move can cost you a character you've grown attached to. It feels like a desperate fight for survival where every decision carries weight.
