I picked up Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare for the Game Boy Color back in 2001. The game uses screen by screen exploration, switching between pre rendered backgrounds as you move. Combat involves aiming and shooting with limited ammunition, and you collect key items to progress through locked areas.
