Okay, so this is the Animorphs GBC RPG—the one that actually didn’t suck. Unlike the other two attempts, this one actually feels like it was made by people who read the books. You’ve got most of the main crew (Tobias fans might be a little disappointed), and the morphing mechanic is way more interesting than I expected—kind of a mix between Pokémon-style turn-based fights and actually using the right animal forms for different situations. Like, yeah, you could fight as a human with a slingshot, but turning into a tiger mid-battle just feels cooler.
It’s janky in that classic late-90s handheld RPG way, but the writing’s decent, and the pixel art does a surprisingly good job with all the weird alien designs. If you ever hid Animorphs books inside your math textbook as a kid, this is weirdly nostalgic. Just don’t expect a masterpiece—it’s a solid B-tier licensed game that didn’t deserve to be forgotten.
