Apocalypse Disk2 came out for the Amiga in 1994, published by Virgin Interactive. It was a time when the Amiga was still a strong platform for action games, and this one fit right in with its straightforward, mission based approach. You pilot a helicopter through side scrolling levels, shooting down enemy vehicles like tanks and other aircraft while trying to rescue hostages. The main goal is to clear each stage by eliminating threats and completing objectives. The game uses a health bar system, so you have to avoid taking too many hits; it also features parallax scrolling backgrounds that give a nice sense of depth. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush in carelessly. Flying through those levels, dodging fire and lining up shots, feels tense and focused.
