Apocalypse is this wild Amiga helicopter shooter that feels like a faster, meaner Choplifter. You're basically a one-man army flying into some dictator's jungle stronghold, dodging tanks, turrets, and enemy choppers while trying to rescue POWs before they get blasted. The parallax scrolling gives it this crazy sense of speed—you'll be weaving between palm trees one second, then suddenly a watchtower starts lighting you up from below.
What I love is how chaotic it gets when you're trying to hover low enough to pick up prisoners while three different enemies are shooting at you from different angles. The controls take a minute to get used to (that Amiga joystick nostalgia), but once it clicks, you feel like an absolute gunship pilot. Just don't get too cocky—those howitzers will ruin your day real fast.
Still holds up as one of the most intense 16-bit shooters out there.
