Game Overview
Astal is one of those Sega Saturn gems that makes you stop and just stare at the backgrounds—seriously, the hand-drawn anime-style art is gorgeous. You play as this big, blue-haired guy (Astal, obviously) who’s got to rescue his girlfriend Leda after some jerk named Jerado kidnaps her. Classic setup, but the world feels alive with weird, dreamy details.
Gameplay’s straightforward side-scrolling action, but there’s a twist: you’ve got this little bird companion that helps out if you free it from cages. And yeah, you can grab power-ups like screen-clearing bombs, which come in handy when enemies swarm. It’s not the hardest platformer out there, but the atmosphere and animation make it worth playing just to soak it all in.
Also, punching boulders never gets old.
