So, Sonic 3D Blast—it’s a weird one. Looks like a 3D game at first glance, but really it’s just isometric, with Sonic awkwardly shuffling around diagonally. Not exactly the speed demon you’d expect, but hey, it was the Saturn’s only Sonic platformer, so we take what we can get.
Instead of blasting through loops at mach speed, you’re mostly rescuing these little bird creatures (Flickies) from badniks. The twist? You’ve gotta carry each one to a warp ring like some kind of interdimensional babysitter. It’s slower, sure, but there’s something oddly satisfying about rounding up all five in a level to unlock hidden stuff.
No time limit either, which is nice—no stress if you wanna poke around for secrets. Just don’t forget to bribe Tails or Knuckles with 50 rings if you want those Chaos Emeralds. Classic Robotnik move, really.
It’s not the best Sonic game, but there’s a weird charm to its janky isometric world. You’ll either love it or wonder why it exists.
