AstroFire came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Epic MegaGames. It was one of those straightforward shooters that felt right at home in the era of shareware, where you'd often get a solid, focused experience without a lot of frills. The game didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it delivered exactly what it promised: fast action and a test of reflexes.

You pilot a small, nimble spacecraft through a series of single-screen arenas, each filled with alien enemies that fire patterned neon projectiles. Your main objective is to clear each screen of all hostiles while dodging an increasingly dense barrage of bullets. Signature mechanics include precise movement to weave through tight spaces, strategic use of a limited smart bomb to clear the screen in a pinch, and collecting power-ups that enhance your ship's firepower. The pacing starts deceptively manageable but quickly escalates into frantic, pattern-memorizing chaos, making for a tough but fair challenge. It feels like a tense dance where every move counts, and surviving a particularly hairy section brings a real rush of relief.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
