Barney Bear Goes to the Farm is one of those old-school Amiga games that feels like a digital storybook with a few surprises. At first, you just click through Barney’s day—feeding chickens, helping with chores—while this slightly robotic voice narrates everything. It’s simple, but there’s something charming about the way clicking random things sometimes makes a cow moo or Barney wave at you.

After the chores, things get more interesting. You can jump straight into the activities section, where my favorite was building the scarecrow—mixing and matching heads, bodies, and legs to make the goofiest-looking guy possible. There’s also this weirdly specific quiz where you match objects to animals (spoiler: the cow definitely wants the milk pail, not the hammer). And if you just want to relax, there’s a whole stack of short animal stories, though you’ll have to read those yourself.

It’s definitely for little kids, but there’s a nostalgic warmth to it if you grew up with these kinds of games. The scarecrow alone kept me entertained longer than I’d like to admit.
