Game Overview

SimFarm is basically SimCity but with cows and crops instead of skyscrapers. You start with a blank plot of land and have to figure out how to turn it into a working farm—buying tractors, planting crops, raising animals, all while dealing with unpredictable weather and the occasional tornado ripping through your cornfields. The first time a drought hit my soybeans, I may have yelled at the screen a little.

What’s cool is how much detail they packed in. Different crops need specific conditions to thrive, livestock actually breed over time (though my prize pig kept losing at the county fair), and you can even influence the nearby town by suggesting new buildings. Get them to build an airport, and suddenly you’ve got crop dusters buzzing overhead. The homestead upgrades each year if you’re profitable, which… isn’t always a given when locusts show up.

It’s got that classic ’90s Maxis charm—simple graphics but surprisingly deep systems. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand. I definitely bankrupted my first farm by buying too many sheep before realizing they needed barns. Still, there’s something weirdly satisfying about finally getting a full harvest in before the frost hits.
