Baseball Stars came out for the NES in 1989, developed by SNK. It was one of the first baseball games that let you build a team from the ground up, which felt pretty advanced at the time. While other games focused on just playing a season, this one gave you a lot more control over your roster and its future.
You control your fielders and batters in a standard baseball game, with the goal of winning games to earn money and improve your custom team. The signature mechanics include creating and managing your own team with editable player names, stats, and even team logos; you can also hire and fire players as your budget allows. The pacing is quick for a sports game of that era, and the difficulty feels fair whether you're playing against the computer or a friend. It's satisfying to see a player you drafted slowly become a star through seasons of grinding.
