Beamrider is one of those Atari 2600 games that feels way ahead of its time—you're piloting this little ship locked onto these five horizontal beams, dodging and weaving through waves of aliens. At first it seems simple: just blast the white saucers to clear each sector. But then the game starts throwing curveballs—new enemy types every couple levels that don’t need to be destroyed, but sure love getting in your way.

What I love is the tension between your weapons. Lasers are unlimited but weak, while torpedoes pack a punch (three per level, use 'em wisely). And that rejuvenator? Such a sneaky risk-reward moment—grab it for an extra life, but accidentally shoot it and suddenly it’s coming for you. The sentinel ships that cruise by after clearing a sector are just icing on the score-chasing cake.

It’s got that perfect arcade rhythm where you’re constantly making split-second decisions. One of those games where you swear you’ll stop after "just one more sector" and suddenly it’s 2 AM.
