Bedlam 2: Absolute Bedlam came out in 1997 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by GT Interactive Software. It was one of those frantic, top-down shooters that really defined the era of shareware and fast-paced action on PC, sitting alongside titles that prioritized quick reflexes over complex stories.
You control a lone soldier navigating maze-like levels, fighting off waves of enemies that pour in from every direction. Your main goal is simply to survive each screen, clearing out foes while hunting for keys to progress. The signature mechanics include frantic shotgun and machine gun combat, careful ammo management since supplies are scarce, and dodging enemy projectiles in tight spaces. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can be brutal, but the controls are responsive enough to make each narrow escape feel earned. It feels like barely holding back chaos with every shot you fire.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
