Bio Metal came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, published by Athena. It was part of that wave of shooters trying to push the hardware with fast action and a lot of on-screen chaos, though it never quite reached the same recognition as some of its peers.
You pilot a fighter through horizontally scrolling stages, clearing waves of enemies and dodging dense patterns of enemy fire. The main goal is simply survival, destroying everything in your path to reach the end of each level. Two mechanics stand out: a screen-clearing bomb that also acts as a brief shield, and a charge shot that grows more powerful the longer you hold the fire button. The pacing is relentless, with enemy attacks coming in thick and fast, making for a fairly tough challenge. It feels like a constant test of reflexes and positioning, where every moment of hesitation can mean a quick defeat.
