Game Overview
Bionic Commando is one of those NES games that looks like a standard platformer at first glance—until you realize your guy can't even jump. Instead, Rad Spencer swings around with this weird bionic grappling arm, which feels awkward for about five minutes before it clicks. Suddenly you're flinging yourself across gaps and latching onto ceilings like some kind of cyborg Tarzan.
The levels are full of little secrets tucked away in spots you can only reach with clever swinging, and enemies love to camp just out of reach to mess with you. The uncensored version here restores some of the original Japanese content, including the weirdly intense Nazi references Capcom scrubbed for the US release. It's tough, but in that satisfying NES way where every death feels like your fault.
Just don't expect the grappling to work like modern games—this thing has its own janky physics, and you'll faceplant into pits more than once figuring it out.
