Game Overview

I picked up the Japanese version of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) a while back. It came out in 1994, developed by a company called Ma-Ba. At the time, the Genesis was full of arcade-style beat 'em ups, and this one was a solid, if not particularly groundbreaking, entry in that crowded genre.

You choose one of the five main Sailor Scouts, each with her own basic attacks and a screen-clearing special move that drains health when used. The goal is straightforward: fight through side-scrolling stages, defeat waves of enemies, and take down the stage boss. The main mechanics involve standard punching and kicking combos, careful positioning to avoid enemy swarms, and saving your special attack for when you're truly overwhelmed. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can feel cheap in spots, especially during some boss encounters. It feels like a competent, if slightly unpolished, adaptation of the source material into a familiar action format.
