Game Overview

I picked up Sailor Moon: Another Story on the Super Nintendo back in 1995, a time when licensed games were a real gamble. It was developed by Angel, and honestly, it stood out from a lot of the other anime tie-ins on the system. Most of those were simple platformers or fighting games, but this one tried something more ambitious, a full-blown role-playing game set between the R and S arcs of the anime.

You control the entire team of Sailor Scouts, switching between them as you explore towns and the overworld map, talking to people and advancing the story. The main goal is to stop a new threat that has split time itself, pulling characters from the past and future into the present. Combat is turn-based, but with a twist; you can pair up characters for combination attacks, and timing your buffs, debuffs, and healing spells is crucial because the enemies hit hard. The pacing is deliberate, with a fair amount of backtracking and random encounters, but the strategic battles and the chance to use everyone's unique powers keep it engaging. It feels like being the tactical leader of the team, making every fight a small puzzle.
