Play Bram Stoker's Dracula Online

You slash through creepy castles as Harker, grabbing random weapons from Mario-style blocks—then the same level flips at night with new paths and monsters. Weirdly fun for a Dracula cash-in.

Game Overview

I picked up Bram Stoker's Dracula for the Game Boy back in 1993, a Sony Imagesoft release that came out around the time everyone was trying to adapt movies into portable games. It was a side-scrolling action title that felt very much of its era, competing for attention with other platformers and adventure games on the small screen.

You control Jonathan Harker, moving through the castle screen by screen, slashing at enemies with a sword or using a cross as a projectile. The main goal is to find and defeat Dracula, which involves a lot of backtracking and key hunting. One of the more interesting mechanics is how certain blocks break open to reveal power-ups, much like in other games of the time, and the day/night cycle changes the castle layout, adding some variety. The pacing is deliberate, and it can be quite difficult with limited continues. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes frustrating, but oddly engaging attempt to bring gothic horror to the Game Boy.
