Game Overview

Bram Stoker's Dracula came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Psygnosis. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins from the era, but it stood out for trying to be a proper action platformer rather than a quick cash-in. You control Jonathan Harker, and the game follows the broad strokes of the novel, moving from London to Transylvania.

You explore the world screen by screen, fighting creatures like rats and vampires with a sword or a cross that acts like a boomerang. The main goal is to find keys and items to progress, all while surviving the platforming sections and enemy attacks. It's a fairly difficult game, with some unforgiving jumps and aggressive enemies, but the atmosphere is thick and the music sets a serious mood. Playing it feels like a genuine, if sometimes frustrating, attempt to capture the dread of the story.
