Game Overview

Bram Stoker's Dracula on NES is one of those weird licensed games from the '90s that somehow ended up being kind of fun despite itself. You play as Jonathan Harker, whipping candles for hearts (classic NES logic) and tossing holy water at bats and skeletons in gloomy Transylvanian castles. The controls are a little stiff, but the atmosphere nails that gothic horror vibe—lots of deep reds and eerie music that makes you feel like Dracula might actually be watching you from the shadows.

It’s definitely a product of its time—some of the platforming is janky, and the hit detection can be frustrating—but there’s something charming about how it tries to cram the movie’s story into 8-bit form. The final boss fight against Dracula himself is surprisingly intense for an NES game. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand—this one’s got that old-school difficulty.
