Brandish on SNES throws you into this eerie underground kingdom that got swallowed up after its greedy king messed with a dragon and turned into a demon. You play as Varik (or Ares if you’re playing the Japanese version), some poor traveler who gets accused of murder and ends up tumbling into the ruins. Now you’re stuck navigating these maze-like dungeons while dodging monsters and a very angry woman who’s out for revenge.

It’s an action RPG, but with a weirdly cool twist—the camera rotates as you move, so you’re constantly adjusting your perspective. At first, it feels disorienting, but after a few floors, you start using it to peek around corners before enemies spot you. There’s a decent mix of swords, armor, and magic to mess with, though I always ended up hoarding healing items because some of those demon knights hit way too hard.

Oh, and you can jump. Not like a platformer, more like a weird little hop forward that somehow becomes crucial when you’re trying to dodge fireballs. It’s clunky in that very ‘90s way, but once you get the hang of it, the dungeons start feeling less impossible. Just don’t expect to leave without a few cheap deaths—those bats have terrible timing.
