Brandish came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Koei. It was part of that wave of dungeon crawlers that really leaned into exploration and atmosphere, rather than just combat. You don't hear about it as much as some other SNES titles, but it had a distinct feel.

You control a lone adventurer descending through a massive, multi-level labyrinth. The main goal is simply to survive and find your way out, fighting monsters and solving environmental puzzles along the way. A key feature is the fixed, overhead view that rotates in 90-degree increments, letting you scan each room carefully. Combat is methodical; you attack with a sword or bow, timing your strikes and managing your positioning to avoid enemy attacks. The pacing is slow and thoughtful, with a high difficulty that punishes carelessness. It feels tense and isolating, like you're really down there alone in the dark.
