I first played Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars on the Nintendo DS back in 2009, a version developed by Revolution Software. It was a solid port for its time, fitting well among other adventure titles on the handheld. The Director's Cut added some nice touches, especially for players who already knew the original.

You control George Stobbart, an American tourist in Paris, who gets pulled into a dangerous conspiracy after a bomb goes off in a cafe. The game is a point and click adventure, so you explore environments screen by screen, collecting items and combining them to solve logic puzzles. You also get to play as journalist Nico Collard in new sections exclusive to this version, which adds depth to the story. The pacing is deliberate, and some puzzles require careful thought, but the dialogue is sharp and the atmosphere absorbing. It feels like being part of a clever, interactive mystery novel.
