Game Overview

BS Nintama Rantarou 2 (Japan) is one of those weird little SNES games that somehow slipped under the radar outside Japan. If you’ve ever seen the Nintama Rantarou anime, it’s basically that—goofy ninja kids bumbling through obstacle courses and mini-games—but in pixel form.

You jump between three characters, each with their own dumb little quirks (one’s slow but strong, another’s fast but weak—you know the drill). The stages are short and chaotic, like someone took a ninja training montage and turned it into a platformer. There’s a lot of slipping on banana peels and getting smacked by rolling logs, which honestly feels about right for a bunch of kid ninjas.

It’s not deep, but the sprite work is full of personality, and the whole thing has this cheerful, slapstick energy. If you’ve ever wanted to play a game where failing feels as funny as succeeding, this might be your jam. Just don’t expect it to take itself seriously.
