Game Overview

Nintama Rantarou 3 (SNES) is one of those weird, wonderful Japan-only platformers that makes you wish more anime games were this fun. You play as little ninja trainees—basically kids who are terrible at being sneaky—dodging teachers, setting traps, and bumbling through obstacle courses that feel like a chaotic school field trip gone wrong.

The pixel art nails the show’s goofy energy, with characters tripping over their own feet and teachers popping out of nowhere like grumpy boogeymen. At first, I kept getting caught because I didn’t realize you could hide in lockers or throw random items as distractions. Turns out, half the fun is figuring out which ridiculous tactic actually works.

It’s got co-op too, which is either twice the fun or twice the disaster depending on how well you and your friend communicate (spoiler: we failed spectacularly). If you like platformers with a little mischief and zero seriousness, this one’s a blast. Just try not to laugh when your ninja kid faceplants into a wall.
