I picked up Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Game Boy Color back in 2000, a THQ release that came out right when handhelds were full of licensed games trying to capture the feel of their source material. It was one of those side-scrolling action titles that felt familiar if you'd played similar games on the system, straightforward in its goals but with a clear attempt to bring Sunnydale to the small screen.

You control Buffy through a series of levels, moving screen by screen, staking vampires and other monsters with your trusty wooden stake. The main objective is to fight through each area, defeat bosses, and rescue kidnapped friends from the latest supernatural threat. Combat is simple but responsive; you jump, attack, and occasionally use sub-weapons like holy water. The pacing is fairly brisk, though some platforming sections can be unforgiving, especially when precision jumps are required over bottomless pits. It feels like a condensed version of the show's action, stripped down but still recognizably Buffy.
