Guide Flik the ant through puzzles, collect items, and outsmart grasshoppers to save your colony in A Bug's Life for Game Boy Color.
I picked up A Bug's Life for the Game Boy Color back in 1999, a time when licensed games were everywhere and you never quite knew what you were getting. Traveller's Tales developed it, and it stood out visually with some surprisingly detailed sprites and backgrounds for the hardware, even if it was clearly aimed at a younger audience. It felt like a solid effort among the many movie tie-ins of that era.
You control Flik, an inventive ant trying to save his colony from the grasshoppers. The gameplay involves exploring screen by screen, solving environmental puzzles, and using items like seeds to build bridges or dung balls to roll through enemy patrols undetected. One of the more memorable mechanics is constructing a fake bird to scare the grasshoppers, which causes satisfying chaos when it works. The pacing is steady, and while it's not overly difficult, some sections require careful timing. It feels clever and inventive in the way it uses the ant-sized world to create engaging obstacles.
