Captain America: Super Soldier on the Nintendo DS came out in 2011, published by Sega. It was one of those licensed games that tried to do something a little different on the handheld, arriving around the time the console was still getting a steady stream of action titles. It didn't try to be a huge, cinematic experience; it felt more focused, built for shorter play sessions.
You control Captain America through a series of side-scrolling levels inside a Hydra castle. The main goal is to fight through waves of enemies and dismantle their operations. The combat relies heavily on timing your shield throws and using counterattacks when enemies telegraph their moves. You also do a fair amount of platforming, climbing pipes and vaulting over gaps to progress. The pacing is pretty brisk, and the difficulty comes from managing groups of enemies rather than complex puzzles. It feels straightforward but satisfying when your counters and throws connect cleanly.
