Game Overview

Championship Pool came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Bitmasters and published by Mindscape. It was one of the few dedicated pool simulations on the system, arriving at a time when sports games were diversifying beyond the major leagues. It didn't try to be flashy; it just offered a straightforward, no frills take on the game of pool.

You control a cursor to aim your shots, adjusting the power and spin of the cue ball before taking each one. The main objective is to clear the table according to standard eight ball or nine ball rules, either against the computer or a friend. Signature mechanics include a precise aiming guide that shows the exact path of the cue ball and object ball, and the ability to apply English by shifting the point of impact on the cue ball. The game moves at a deliberate pace, demanding patience and careful calculation rather than quick reflexes. It feels like a thoughtful, almost meditative challenge, where every shot requires your full attention.
