Play Children Of Mana (FireX) (EU) Online
You slash through monsters in short dungeons, mixing basic attacks with flashy spells while the game’s storybook art and fluty soundtrack make everything feel like a tiny Ghibli adventure.
Children of Mana came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by Square Enix. It was part of that early wave of DS games that tried to figure out how to use both screens, and it fit right in with other action RPGs from that time, like the Zelda titles but with a more straightforward, mission based structure.
You control one of four young heroes, each with a different weapon, like a sword or a bow, and you explore the world screen by screen, clearing out monsters and delving into dungeons. The main goal is to restore the Mana Tree by collecting fruit from the Mana Goddess, which involves a lot of combat and puzzle solving in bite sized areas. You can charge your attacks for more power, and you use the touch screen to activate special items and spells. The pacing is quick, with short levels you can finish in a few minutes, though the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later areas. It feels like a brisk, colorful hack and slash with a cozy, almost portable feel to its exploration.
