Game Overview

Chou Jikuu Yousai Macross came out for the NES in 1985, published by Namco. It was part of that early wave of licensed games based on popular anime, and it tried to capture the feel of the Macross series on the limited hardware of the time. The game doesn't try to do anything revolutionary, but it's a solid effort that fans of the show would have appreciated back then.

You control the Veritech fighter, which can transform between three modes: a fast jet for horizontal shooting, a battroid for slower vertical combat, and an intermediate guardian form. Your goal is to survive through side-scrolling stages, shooting down enemy craft and avoiding their fire. The screen scrolls automatically, forcing you to keep moving and react quickly to incoming threats. It's a challenging game with a steady pace, and switching forms at the right moment is key to making progress. Flying through those levels, dodging bullets and returning fire, gives a real sense of being in a hectic space battle.
