Chrono Trigger on the DS is one of those rare RPGs that just nails everything. You start off at a fair, messing around with your buddy, and before you know it, you're jumping through time portals trying to stop the apocalypse. The combat's turn-based but snappy—no endless menus—and the way your party members' abilities combo together makes fights feel way more dynamic than your average JRPG.
What really sticks with me is how your choices actually matter. Little things, like whether you bother to save a random cat early on, can ripple into totally different endings. And the pixel art? Still gorgeous, especially on the DS screen. The extra dungeons they added for this version are hit-or-miss, but the core game? Timeless.
If you've never played it, this is the perfect way to experience one of the best RPGs ever made.
