Game Overview

Chrono Trigger came out on the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by Square. It was one of those late-era SNES games that really showed what the system could do, with detailed sprites and a sense of scale that felt ambitious for the time.

You control a small party of characters, moving screen by screen through towns, forests, and dungeons. Your main goal is to travel across different time periods, from prehistory to a far future, trying to prevent a global catastrophe. Combat is turn based but happens right on the map; you can see enemies before engaging, and positioning matters for area of effect techs. Two or three characters can combine their special moves into powerful dual and triple techs, which adds strategy to building your party. The pacing is brisk, with little grinding required, and the game always gives you a clear sense of direction. It feels like being part of a grand, personal adventure where your choices genuinely matter.
