Game Overview

Chuck Rock for the SNES came out in 1992, developed by Core Design. It was part of that wave of early platformers on the system, where colorful, cartoonish graphics and simple concepts were common. It didn't try to be epic; it was just a straightforward, silly action game you could pick up and play.

You control Chuck, a caveman whose main goal is to rescue his wife from the villainous Gary Gritter. The primary way you interact with the world is through Chuck's belly; you charge up and launch a big belly flop to smash enemies and break certain obstacles. You also pick up and throw rocks, which is useful for hitting switches or enemies from a distance. The levels are linear but filled with pits, falling boulders, and dinosaurs to avoid. The pacing is brisk, and some sections demand precise jumps, making it trickier than it first appears. It feels like a goofy, physical puzzle where your main tool is your own body weight.
