Game Overview

Cleopatra Fortune came out in 1997 as an arcade puzzle game from Taito. It was part of that late 90s wave of arcade cabinets where developers were still experimenting with how to make simple concepts feel fresh and challenging. You don't see many games like it anymore, which is a shame because its particular brand of stress is hard to replicate.

You control a small excavator at the bottom of the screen, catching colored treasure blocks as they fall from above. The main goal is to stack these blocks neatly so they don't overhang and topple; if your pile gets too high or unstable, it's game over. Two mechanics define the experience: matching four blocks of the same color makes them vanish, clearing space, and special items like scarab beetles or speed-up icons drop in to drastically change the pace. The game starts calmly but quickly becomes frantic, demanding quick decisions and careful placement. It feels like a constant, tense battle against gravity and your own mistakes.
