Game Overview
Cliff Hanger on SNES is one of those weird licensed games that somehow works. You play as a rescue team leader sent to help "hikers" who are actually terrorists stranded on a mountain after their plane heist went sideways. The first thing you notice is how weirdly pretty the snowy cliffs look for a 16-bit game—until someone starts shooting at you from a ledge above.
It’s basically a run-and-gun platformer where you’re scrambling up icy slopes, ducking behind rocks, and occasionally picking up the bad guys’ own guns to blast them back. The controls feel a little stiff at first (this was 1993, after all), but once you get used to the jump arcs, it’s satisfying to outmaneuver enemies on those narrow paths. And yeah, it’s totally based on that Sylvester Stallone movie nobody remembers.
Fun fact: The terrorists’ AI is either dumb as rocks or weirdly strategic—no in-between. You’ll laugh when one walks off a cliff, then immediately swear as another nails you with a sniper shot from off-screen.
