Play Cocoto - Kart Racer (E) Online
Drift as demonic little creatures through metal-inspired tracks, dodging fireballs and hitting shortcuts that actually help you keep up with the ruthless AI. It’s janky in the best way.
I picked up Cocoto Kart Racer for the Nintendo DS back in 2005, a game developed by Neko Entertainment. It was part of that early wave of DS titles trying to find a place on the handheld, a kart racer that stood out mostly because of its unusual, almost heavy metal aesthetic. It wasn't trying to be Mario Kart; it had its own weird charm from the start.
You control one of several small, devilish characters racing on tracks filled with hazards like fireballs and lava pits. The main goal is straightforward: finish first. The game uses the touch screen for some power-up management, and you can perform a drift by holding a button to slide around corners, though it feels a bit looser than in other racers. The AI is notoriously aggressive, making every race a frantic scramble to avoid being knocked off the track or into an obstacle. It feels chaotic and a little unpolished, but that roughness gives it a unique, unpredictable energy.
