Play Cohort - Fighting for Rome Online
Command a handful of pixel legionaries in tight tactical battles—mess up positioning and they’re dead, nail the formations and you’ll crush barbarian hordes like Caesar. Chunky MS-DOS sprites and clunky controls somehow make it better.

Game Overview
Ever wanted to feel like a Roman general without the whole "dying of dysentery" part? Cohort - Fighting for Rome is that weird little MS-DOS game where you command a handful of pixelated legionaries through surprisingly tense battles. At first glance it looks simple—just move your guys around the map—but then you realize positioning matters way more than you'd think. Get caught in the open? That's a massacre. Set up a proper shield wall in a choke point? Suddenly you're Julius Caesar.
The controls take a minute to get used to (this is a '90s DOS game), but there's something satisfying about outmaneuvering enemy warbands with basic formations. And yeah, the graphics are ancient, but the chunky sprites and clunky sound effects weirdly add to the charm. Just don't expect historical accuracy—your "cohort" is like six dudes, and battles last maybe two minutes. But when those two minutes involve desperately flanking some barbarians before they overrun your line? Pure adrenaline.
Found this buried in an old shareware collection years ago and still fire it up when I want quick, messy tactical combat. Bonus points if you play while listening to the Gladiator soundtrack.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
