Game Overview
Hajime no Ippo on DS is basically a love letter to the anime—you start off as a scrawny kid getting pummeled in the ring, just like Ippo’s early days. The controls take some getting used to (good luck nailing those dodges at first), but once you get the rhythm down, landing a perfect Dempsey Roll feels ridiculously satisfying.
It’s not just button-mashing either—you’ve got stamina to manage, and if you swing wildly, you’ll gas out fast. The sprite work captures the anime’s energy, especially when you trigger special moves and the screen goes all shounen-manga with impact effects. Just don’t expect an easy ride—some of the later fights will have you retrying until your thumbs ache.
