Game Overview

Fighting Masters is one of those early Genesis fighters where simplicity is both its charm and its limitation. You pick from twelve alien warriors—each fighting to save their doomed star system from a supernova—and then it’s straight into clunky, weighty brawls where throws and wall slams do way more damage than punches.

Controls are barebones: attack, block, and jump (but you can’t just tap up—you’ve gotta hold a direction then hit jump, which feels weird at first). No flashy combos here, just slow, deliberate strikes and the occasional special move if you mash the right inputs. The real strategy comes from grappling—land a hold, and you can absolutely wreck your opponent with a brutal toss or suplex.

It’s janky, sure, but there’s something satisfying about the sheer impact of slamming someone into the arena wall. Playable solo or with a friend, though you might have more fun just watching the AI duke it out in watch mode. Not exactly a deep fighter, but it’s got that early ‘90s arcade charm.
