I picked up Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition for the Sega Genesis back in 1995. It was developed by Natsume, who had a solid reputation for action games on the system. This was a time when licensed games were a real mixed bag, but this one stood out as a straightforward versus fighter amidst a sea of platformers and beat 'em ups.

You control one of several Rangers or villains, each with their own basic and special moves. The main goal is simple: deplete your opponent's health bar before they deplete yours. The game uses a screen by screen structure for its versus matches, and a key mechanic is building up a special meter to unleash a character's super move, like the Megazord's finishing attack. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike depending on who you're facing. It feels responsive and chaotic in the best way, like a quick playground argument settled with pixelated punches.
