Game Overview

Art of Fighting on SNES is one of those fighting games that feels a little different—in a good way. You play as Ryo or Robert, two martial artists trying to rescue Ryo’s sister Yuri from some shady folks in South Town. The story actually unfolds between fights, which was pretty rare back then, dropping hints about mob ties and a mysterious past.

The big twist? Your Spirit meter. Special moves drain it fast, and if you’re not careful, you’ll be stuck standing there like an idiot trying to recharge while the other guy punches your face in. But when you’re almost down for the count, there’s this secret desperation move—if you’ve got full Spirit, you can turn the tables in one brutal strike. Feels amazing when it works.

Oh, and the SNES version actually lets you play as Mr. Big and Mr. Karate, which the arcade didn’t. Small win, but hey, I’ll take it.
