Game Overview

I picked up Art of Fighting for the Super Nintendo back in 1994, a port of SNK's arcade fighter. It was one of those games that felt a bit different on the SNES, a little rougher around the edges compared to some of the slicker releases of the time, but it had its own charm.

You control either Ryo or Robert, two martial artists trying to rescue Ryo's sister from a local crime boss. The main objective is to fight through a series of opponents, one after another, in best-of-three rounds. Signature mechanics include a spirit gauge that depletes as you use special moves, limiting how often you can pull them off, and the ability to taunt your opponent to drain their spirit. The pacing is deliberate, the difficulty is steep, and the characters are huge, making every punch and kick feel weighty. It feels like a scrappy, earnest brawler that demands patience and precision.
