Game Overview

Color a Dinosaur came out for the NES in 1993, published by Virgin Interactive. It was part of a wave of simple, child-focused titles that tried to offer something different from the action and platformers that dominated the system. You don't save a princess or fight aliens here; the whole experience is built around coloring in pictures.

You use the D-pad to move a cursor around the screen, selecting colors from a palette at the bottom. The game presents you with black and white line art of various dinosaurs, and your only objective is to fill them in. You can either meticulously color within the lines or just scribble wildly across the entire scene. There's no timer, no score, and no way to fail, making it an extremely slow and forgiving experience. It feels less like playing a game and more like using a very basic, slightly clumsy digital art tool.
