Ever wanted to chop onions without crying? Cooking Mama on the DS lets you do that—sort of. You’ll swipe and tap your way through recipes with the stylus, frantically slicing veggies or flipping pancakes before they burn. Mama watches over your shoulder, either cheering you on or giving you that slightly disappointed look if you mess up (which you will, at first).

There’s something weirdly satisfying about the rhythm of it—peeling potatoes, stirring soup, even decorating cakes. The controls are simple, but timing matters, and some dishes get surprisingly intense. I still remember the first time I nailed a perfect omelet after three charred disasters.

It’s not exactly a cooking class, but you might pick up a few real kitchen basics between all the chaotic fun.
