Play Cool Spot (Beta) on sega Online
Guide the 7 Up dot through platforming challenges, running and jumping across giant objects, freeing friends, and collecting letters in this beta version of Cool Spot on Sega Genesis.
Cool Spot was a Sega Genesis game, though this particular beta version never saw an official release. It was developed by Virgin Games, and it fit right in with the early 90s trend of platformers built around familiar brands. You control the actual 7 Up dot, a red spot with sunglasses, navigating through a variety of everyday environments that have been scaled up to obstacle course size.
You guide Spot through screen by screen platforming challenges, running and jumping across giant soda cans, beach towels, and kitchen counters. The main goal is to free other captured Spot characters by touching them while also gathering letters that spell out "UNCOLA". Key mechanics include using your extendable pointer finger to hit switches from a distance and performing a brief mid air hover to extend your jumps and correct mistakes. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages, especially when dealing with enemies like dive bombing seagulls or angry crabs. It feels surprisingly fluid and responsive for a game based on a soda mascot.
