Play Cool Spot on GB Online

You play as the 7-Up dot hopping between surfboards and bottle caps, dodging crabs while collecting red dots in oddly satisfying little platforming challenges. The beachy pixel art and tight jumps make it way more fun than a soda ad has any right to be.

Game Overview

Cool Spot on Game Boy came out in 1994 from Virgin Interactive, a time when licensed platformers were everywhere. It was a simple concept, turning a soda mascot into a hero, but it stood out because it actually played well. The game didn't try to be epic; it was just a solid, straightforward action platformer that knew what it was.

You control the 7-Up Spot, a red dot with sunglasses, navigating screen by screen across beaches and soda-themed environments. Your goal is to rescue other Spots by collecting them, while also gathering red dots to unlock new stages. You jump across floating bottle caps, avoid enemies like crabs and seagulls, and use your ability to shoot bubbles to stun foes. The pacing is quick, and some jumps require precise timing, but it never feels unfair. It feels satisfying to move through each compact stage, hitting every target and making it to the exit without taking a hit.
