Play Cool Spot (Japan) Online

You play as the 7 Up dot—shades and all—bouncing between bottle caps and climbing giant straws in a beach level that shouldn’t be this charming. Japan’s version adds a few extra animations, but either way, it’s weirdly good for a soda ad.

Game Overview

Cool Spot came out on the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Virgin Games. It was a time when licensed games were common, and this one stood out for being more polished than most. The Japanese release is essentially the same as the Western version, with minor cosmetic differences.

You control the 7 Up mascot, a red spot with sunglasses, navigating through themed levels like a beach or a kitchen. Your goal is to rescue other spots trapped in bottles, moving screen by screen. You shoot bubbles to defeat enemies, bounce on bottle caps to reach high platforms, and collect letters to spell "UNCOLA" for extra lives. The pacing is brisk, and some later stages get quite challenging with precise platforming. It feels surprisingly tight and responsive for a game based on a soft drink.
